NORTH STATE BANK SUMMER SALUTE FOR HOSPICE OF WAKE COUNTY NETS $100,000

August 5, 2004

Raleigh, N.C…The inaugural North State Bank Summer Salute for Hospice of Wake County netted a $100,000 contribution to Hospice of Wake County, announced Larry D. Barbour, president and CEO for North State Bank.

"To say we are pleased to make this contribution would be an understatement," Barbour said. "The way our staff members, directors, customers, vendors, and shareholders supported this event and this cause was inspiring. It was an example of local corporate citizens joining hands with a community-based organization to benefit the entire community. We set high goals for the first year of this event, and then far surpassed our expectations."

The event, presented and hosted by North State Bank, was held at North Ridge Country Club. The Embers performed to a full dance floor throughout the evening. Money was raised through sponsorships, ticket sales, individual or corporate donations, a raffle and an auction.

According to Hospice, current plans are to use the funds to support their indigent care programs and the Reflections Program for Children. The indigent care programs help those who either have no insurance or whose insurance coverage does not include hospice services. The Reflections program is Wake County's only professional program that assists children and teens (from birth to age 21), as well as their families, with grief following the loss of a loved one.

The Honorable Jeanette Hyde, former U.S. ambassador and a member of the Board of Directors of North State Bancorp, and Mr. Steve Salisbury, senior vice president and Raleigh city executive for North State Bank, served as co-chairs for Summer Salute. Plans are already underway for next year's event to be held Saturday, May 21, 2005, at North Ridge Country Club.

Headquartered in Raleigh, NC, North State Bank is a full-service community bank that currently has three offices in Wake County: on Falls of Neuse in North Raleigh, on Blue Ridge in West Raleigh, and on 70W in Garner, and a loan production office at Wakefield Corporate Center. North State's new headquarters and banking office at North Hills on Six Forks Road will open in late 2004.

Hospice of Wake County has provided compassionate end of life care to the people of Wake County for 25 years. The largest and most experienced private, non-profit hospice agency in the area, Hospice strives to promote and improve the community's quality of living and dying through advanced care planning, comfort care, hospice care, and bereavement services. Hospice's philosophy is that every individual deserves the quality of life that he or she wants near life's end.

Other Summer Salute sponsors included Agri Supply Co., Barton Development Group, Professional Property Management (PPM), Red Star Oil Company, and StrategiCommunication.
